Sweet Bitter
2026
Isomalt, Vinyl
The Third in the series exploring sugar as both a material and a metaphor for mercurial.
This installation engages with Julia Kristeva’s concept of abjection. The sculpture is intended to reflect tension between attraction and repulsion. The sculpture confronts the viewer with the physical consequences of prolonged sugar consumption and poor dental health. Simultaneously alluring and unsettling, it transforms the familiar, a mouth, into something grotesque, inviting reflection on the body's vulnerability and the psychological discomfort associated with decay, excess, and consumption.
(All That Is Sold Melts Into Air and The Sword of Damocles (7:18) are part of the same series)
